Chiropractic treatments began in 1895 by a man named Daniel Palmer. He had many occupations before becoming the first chiropractor in the world in Iowa.
This great alternative to conventional medicine struggled to gain widespread acceptance for the next 50 or 60 years. Finally in the 1970’s the profession started to gain some credibility and chiropractic offices started popping up in many cities in North America. Now you would be hard pressed to find a strip mall without a chiropractor as one of it’s tenants.
Here is a good video in slide format that describes the life and struggles of Dr. Palmer and what it took for him to start Chiropractic treatments at the turn of the century.
